Missions @ Cross Point

It is an understatement to say I love the heart this Church has for missions. Ryan Bult does a great job leading us in opportunities to serve the body of Christ.

My heart was filled with joy as I watched people flood out of the service in Nashville to pick up boxes to help the children of Wheelwright, KY. The Dickson campus was just as excited to help and scooped up the boxes quick. I heard one person say this, “I sent my husband over to pick one of the boxes so I could get one before they were gone.” What a great attitude of serving. She could have just been happy that all the needs were taken care of, but no, SHE wanted to help.

I know that many people just got back from Wheelwright and did many great things sharing Christ’s love with them. You can read about that trip HERE!

I talked to Walter Stephens from Dickson about a trip he and others took to Honduras on a medical mission trip. Read about it HERE and HERE!

And Pete is leading a group to the Dominican Republic that leaves this morning. Pray for them to change lives and get some work done on the church for Moise. They are going to be blogging all week long. You can follow them HERE!

Let’s have a Party!

A couple of months ago I had the privilege and honor of praying with my youngest son, Devin, to accept Jesus to be his Lord and Savior.

I have to admit, it kinda blind sided me. I was up in Devin’s room saying our nightly prayers when he said “Dad, I want to have Jesus in my heart just like you and mom and my brothers.”

Well, what was I suppose to do? My first thought was that he is only 4, does he even know what accepting Jesus means? After talking to him, he seemed to have a child like grasp of accepting Christ.

Isn’t that all you need? A childlike grasp. The Gospel is not that complicated…it is a very simple process.

Well, with tears in my eyes, I led my third son Devin in the prayer to accept Christ. After the prayer, my wife Holly and my other two sons, Nathan and Nicholas, both cheered as I know the angels were cheering in heaven. After the joyful event, Nicholas proceeded to try to take advantage of the excitement and asks if they can have a party and all watch a movie in the bonus room. That’s my Nicholas, always trying to take advantage of a situation. What a great night!

I have had the privilege of praying with all three of my boys to accept Christ. Does that sound like bragging? Well, yes I am so proud of my boys. I am truly blessed. With God’s help, I hope I can help nurture their relationship with Christ as they grow.

Why An Elders Blog?

One thing we hear consistently around Cross Point is “Who are the Elders?”, and “What is the role of an Elder at Cross Point?” We hope to answer those and other questions with the Elders blog.

With three services in Nashville and two services in Dickson, we need to find creative opportunities for us to communicate with the church body. It would take us months to be able to talk with everyone at two different campuses and five different services.

So, what are the goals for this blog? They are to:

Let you have an opportunity to get to know who the Elders are.
Have open dialog about things going on with Cross Point.
Share with you what God is laying on our hearts.

What is your vision?

OK, let’s take a test together. A vision test.

What’s in the picture? Focus. What do you see? Obviously, it’s an acorn. But just a second! A closer look reveals a lot more than what meets the eye. This is the impact Jordan had on Basketball before he picked up a ball. It’s the impact Tiger’s having on Golf before he swung a club. It represents the impact of a church on the lives within its community and throughout the world before a small body of believers and their pastor started a church. Do you see what I’m getting at? This could be a picture of a forest if grown to its potential!

Do you see within yourself the talents, abilities, and potential that could make a world wide impact for Christ? God does. It’s what Jesus meant when he commissioned us to ‘Go and make disciples of all nations’. We were not commissioned to remain in seed form but to grow and produce more seeds that will in turn grow and produce more seeds…all for His glory. It’s a relentless dedication to reaching those outside the family of God with the gospel of Christ.
