Let’s have a Party!

30 06 2008

A couple of months ago I had the privilege and honor of praying with my youngest son, Devin, to accept Jesus to be his Lord and Savior.

I have to admit, it kinda blind sided me. I was up in Devin’s room saying our nightly prayers when he said “Dad, I want to have Jesus in my heart just like you and mom and my brothers.”
Well, what was I suppose to do? My first thought was that he is only 4, does he even know what accepting Jesus means? After talking to him, he seemed to have a child like grasp of accepting Christ.
Isn’t that all you need? A childlike grasp. The Gospel is not that complicated…it is a very simple process.
Well, with tears in my eyes, I led my third son Devin in the prayer to accept Christ. After the prayer, my wife Holly and my other two sons, Nathan and Nicholas, both cheered as I know the angels were cheering in heaven. After the joyful event, Nicholas proceeded to try to take advantage of the excitement and asks if they can have a party and all watch a movie in the bonus room. That’s my Nicholas, always trying to take advantage of a situation. What a great night!
I have had the privilege of praying with all three of my boys to accept Christ. Does that sound like bragging? Well, yes I am so proud of my boys. I am truly blessed. With God’s help, I hope I can help nurture their relationship with Christ as they grow.
I would love to hear what kinds of stories you guys might have about accepting Christ. Let us know

I had the same experience with my daughter, Heather, when she was eight years old. I kept thinking, does she really know what she is doing? But, God seemed to whisper, “It’s not up to you.” I just remember her saying over and over, I want Jesus. I led her in that simple prayer of faith. I’ve been blessed to be present when a lot of people have accepted Christ and the thing that always amazes me is, how little we have to do with it. God requires only one thing from us….that we be available.

No, 4 isn’t too young. Not when we understand the truth of Heb 11:6. “….anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Ian, thanks for sharing that very sweet and cool story!! The story of Sam being saved is pretty cool, too. My hometown church hosts a really cool event every year around Halloween called Hallelujah House (I think!). It takes you through a traumatic event of a couple of people, one a Christian, one unsaved. It’s really quite a moving experience. This particular night, we went through the experience together and were moved beyond belief. In a nutshell, the Christian is welcomed into heaven by angels, harps, etc and the unsaved person is welcomed into Hell. At the end of the night, after he was prayed for by the staff and pastor, he decided to ask Jesus into his heart. I was thrilled. A few weeks later, Pete baptized him at CP. Yea!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you guys in the blogging world!

Wow, that is awesome and precious. My oldest son accepted Christ when he was about 12. My 2 youngest sons are just 18 months and 3 1/2. How exciting and blessed that a 4 year old can make that decision for himself. Wow, again!

Ian, I know kinda sorta how you feel…..when my bonus-son (Kyle) came to me about three years ago and said “Mom, I think I’m ready”…. with tears in his eyes, I KNEW exactly what he meant, but I didn’t want to “be in charge of THAT”…not SALVATION!!! God, do you know what you’re doing?????? Those were my thoughts AND words…but what a blessing it was when I realized, hey, it’s not ME that has to do this, it’s HIM…. so God took over and it was a moment I will never forget (and neither has he!)… YOU’RE boys are blessings to us, and especially to KYLA!!! I am singing with the Angels on this one!! Thanks so much for sharing…since HOLY HOLLY didn’t!! :)
